ARTWORK COMMISSIONS
I TRULY WANT YOU TO LOVE ANY WORK OF ART YOU ACQUIRE FROM ME.
Sometimes it's hard to express what exactly is the thing that makes you love one painting, while another one doesn't speak to you the same way. It's sort of a case of “I'll know it when I see it.” It can make the idea of commissioning a painting seem risky.
MY COMMISSION PROCESS TAKES OUT THE RISK.
I get it. My work is intuitive and process based, and every painting doesn't look like every other painting. You love it in general, but you want to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the one you commission for your home.
I want you to have full confidence that you will love a painting you commission from me, or you won't have to move forward and accept the piece.
I love working on commissions—the conversations, the collaboration, and the opportunity to create something uniquely suited to your space. My goal is for you to have a painting that truly delights you.
The Process
We begin by discussing your space, your vision, and what you’re looking for in a painting. We’ll go over paintings of mine that you love and the color palette you have in mind. If you have fabric swatches, paint samples, or other artwork in the space, we can consider those elements to ensure a cohesive design.
Once we have a general direction, we’ll establish the ideal size for your piece. I recommend using blue painter’s tape to map out potential sizing directly on your wall—this helps visualize the scale and placement. If needed, I can also create custom color palette swatches to help refine the best shades for your design. There are so many variations of colors like blue, for example, and this process ensures we capture the right tone.
Some clients also like to incorporate an inspirational quote on the raw canvas before I begin painting, almost as a way of setting an intention for the piece. If this interests you, let me know what resonates with you, and I’d be happy to include it.
Creating Your Artwork
Once the details are finalized, I order the materials and schedule your project in my studio. A 35% deposit is required to begin, with the final payment due upon completion.
I often create two paintings so you have a choice, and if you love both, you have the option to purchase the second one as well.
During the process, I can send in-progress photos and videos if you’d like to see how the painting is coming together. However, some clients prefer to wait and experience the finished piece all at once—it’s entirely up to you.
Review & Approval
Once the painting is complete, I’ll send high-resolution images of the finished work. If you’d like, you can send me a photo of your space, and I can Photoshop the artwork into it to help you visualize how it will look in your home or office.
For local clients, I offer the option to hang the painting in your space for a few days to see if it’s the right fit. We can also arrange a virtual or in-person studio visit if you’d like to see the work before making a decision.
If you love it, we’ll finalize payment, I’ll varnish the painting for protection, and arrange for shipping or delivery. If it’s not quite right, you are not obligated to purchase it—art should be something you truly love. However, the 35% deposit is non-refundable, as it covers materials, studio time, and the creative process. If you choose not to move forward, I retain the painting and will make it available to other collectors.
Commissions are a collaboration, a chance to explore within your vision while allowing room for creativity to unfold. I never want you to feel pressured to keep a piece that doesn’t truly resonate with you. If you don’t love it, someone else will—I am confident that the right collector will connect with the work.
If you’re interested in commissioning a piece, I’d love to chat about your vision. Let’s create something special together!
